“Alchemy” EP From Hawk Björn

Hawk’s most recent EP, “Alchemy” is a collection of songs about living life to the fullest while confronting challenges.

The lyrics are based on reflections and poems written throughout 2023 and 2024 while taking stock of what truly matters in life: friendship, good health, music, kindness, and love. “Alchemy” – a seemingly magical process of transformation and creation, taking pain and turning it into hope.

“So these past couple years, I’ve been grappling with the concept of impermanence and the heart-breaking notion of leaving loved ones behind” says Hawk. And on a more positive hopeful note, Hawk also explores what it is to live in the now, in the present moment and being the best that one can be. “I’d rather be optimistic and look for the light “, Hawk sings, “Instead of pessimistic and probably right”.

All songs were recorded by Hawk in “The Shed” in North Vancouver, BC Canada while Winston Hauschild produced and mixed on Bowen Island, BC Canada. Andy Kravitz contributed amazing drums and percussion in Studio 4 West, Venice Beach, CA, USA. Mastering by Elisa Pangsaeng at CPS Mastering, Vancouver BC Canada.

About Hawk Björn:

Growing up in the plateau-heeled shadows of ABBA in the land of the midnight sun and pickled herring, Hawk has always been intuitively drawn to harmony laden pop music like 10cc, Queen and ELO. Says Hawk: ‘I always sang along with all the back-up vocals instead of the lead vocal. Just loved the complexities and the richness of the human voice”.

At seventeen, he left his native Sweden, and a journey began that found him living and travelling all over the world, a bit of a global nomad, before finally finding home on the west-coast of Canada. Hawk’s musical journey is equally diverse. From choral music to a serious love for reggae, his own music is mostly about pure and simple pop songs. Harmonies and catchy melodies along with passionate, introspective, and universal lyrics are trademarks of his songwriting. Over the years, Hawk has written and recorded with some of the music industry’s top producers and musicians including Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, REM), Andrew Gold (10cc, Linda Ronstadt), Michael Omartian (Whitney Houston, Rod Stewart), Clif Magness (Avril Lavigne) and Glenn Ballard (Alanis Morissette, Michael Jackson).
